A year later, Zhaunil rememberd that night.
"It was when you asked Lucan to marry me?" She giggled as Verin wrestled with her on their bed.
"Yes," He grinned, "I never told you what he said after the dinner, did I?"
"No, my love. You didn't," She grinned and tried to wiggle away from him. "So what did he say?" He sighed then fell onto the empty space beside her.
"He said 'no' that he 'wanted to have a taste of you first' but I wouldn't allow it." He turned to face her. "You are mine, Zhaunil. No one else will have you, ever!" His voice started to get angry and she was a bit scared.
"Then what will we do?"
"We will wed today." She smiled.
"R-really?"
"Yes. Today at the Temple of Innoruuk. Our Father will bind us together for eternity." He grinned, his voice a whisper now.
"Thank you!" He kissed her full on the lips, then they wrestled a bit more.

The moons were about to rise, and the sky to the East turned red, orange, and purple. It then faded into the dark blue sky dotted with diamond like stars of other worlds. Zhaunil was dressed in the finest white thin silk. A black tiara with a white stone in the center, sat upon her brow. She held a red scarf in her hands and she walked up the white stone stairs of the Temple of Innoruuk. Verin was dressed in the same white silk, except for he wore pantaloons and a jacket. Instead of a tiara at his brow, their lay a crown. Made of the same black metal as hers, with the same white stone. He carried a dagger in his right hand and a Vellium goblet filled with red wine on the white stone altar. Both of their white hair shined in the receding light and lay against their shoulders. She reached the top of the stairs. A cleric of Innoruuk stepped behind the altar. Many were gathered behind them in the courtyard. They were all dressed in the same silk garments as theirs. They had no crowns though, but held white rose petals in their hands. Few walked the perimiter and lit white candles.
Zhaunil nor Verin said anything, they just stood staring into eachother's eyes. The cleric, however, spoke. His voice was raspy, as if he only spoke once in a while.
"Innoruuk, our Father. See these two children, " He called out to the silent people. "Bind them with blood," Verin slit his left palm and Zhaunils right. Neither of them flinced. "Bind them with wine," Verin set the dagger on the altar in the center. The hilt facing the statue God's feet then dripped some of the blood into the goblet, and Zhaunil did the same. "Bind them to energy," Verin took a gulp of the blood wine, and handed it to Zhaunil. She hesitated for only a second, taking the goblet and drinking the rest. She handed the goblet back to Verin. "Bind them to love," They kissed eachother. "Bind them to death!" He roared the last phrase, Verin threw the goblet to the ground at the base of the temple stairs. It shattered into many ice like pieces that glittered in the moon and candlelight. "Now," The cleric grined. "We bind them for the night!" many laughed in the crowd. They held eachothers slit hands and the cleric grabbed the red scarf from Zhaunil and tied their hand's together as tight as he could. "We know what happens after this my Lords and Ladies!" People parted and Verin picked up Zhaunil. He carried her down the stairs and walked past the people. They threw the rose petals to them. Few landed in their hair. Verin kissed Zhaunil as well as he could and he carried her the rest of the way to his home.

"Innoruuk our Father ... see these two children ... bind them with blood ... bind them with wine ... bind them to energy ... bind them to love ... bind them to death ... " Those words echoed in her head ...

A few years later Zhaunil was with child. She glowed with an unatural beauty as Verin paraded her swollen belly around Freeport. Unable to cast much at this time, she was very open and afraid. Verin insisted she shouldn't be, though her paranoia got the better of her.

The day had come she was to give birth. The midwife was an older Tier'Dal woman experienced in the medicinal arts. Orders were given to the very afraid Verin as Zhaunil yelled out in pain. When he first saw the baby crown, he ran out of the room. Verin left, grabbed a horse in the stables and rode away.

That same night when Zhaunil was in tears holding her daughter close, listening to her cries, Verin returned. She stopped her crying and looked up to him. She was a mess and very weak but he approached her, silver eyes curious at the little dark child in his wifes arms.

"You, came back?" Her eyes were wet with tears and glittered in the firelight.

"I .. couldn't leave you ... " He said getting even closer to the whining bundle. "May I .. see it?"

"Her ... you have a daughter Verin."

"May I see, her?" He held out his shaking arms towards his daughter. Little whisps of silver hair dotted her skull. Zhaunil handed him their daughter carufully, her trust imperfect. When Verin took the baby, she had stopped wailing, little silver eyes peered up at the new father. He touched her little pointed ears and tiny nose, admiring the beauty in such one so small.

Seeing Verin doing well with the baby she fell asleep, exhausted. Verin looked at his wife then back to his daughter.
"You have my eyes ... " He whispered to her. Holding her close, Verin sat upon a nearby wooden chair readjusting the soft furs around his daughter. A half grin showed up on his face as he gently spoke to the baby.

Hours later Zhaunil woke up. Verin was asleep in the chair holding their daughter. She pulled on a nearby cord. The midwife walked in.
"Please place her in the nursery and wake our Lord." The midwife nodded and did as she was told. Sleepily Verin awoke and joined Zhaunil in her bed. They whispered to eachother.

"Have you thought of a name?"
"No, I was hoping you would think of it ..."
"I see, I will then."
"Thank you for coming back."
"I couldn't leave you .. the look upon your face when I returned still haunts me."
"It may for the rest of your life."
"I agree."
"Have you thought of a name yet?"
"Yes, Xata."
"Xata .. yes, I like it."

They fell asleep again in eachothers arms, dreaming of their new daughter ... Xata.

Both Zhaunil and Verin awoke to the sound of deathly screams. Males of all the humanoid races, dressed in black with large hoods entered the room. Swiftly three of them moved over to Zhaunil's bed. Verin jumped out of the soft bed anger flashing in his eyes.

"I demand to know your ..." He was hit behind the skull with one of the males fists, knocking him out instantly. Zhaunil screamed and tried to jump out to save her mate. She just fell to the ground, still weak. The midwife ran into the room holding Zhaunil's daughter in her hands. Fear was in the older Tier'Dal's blue eyes. One of the men grabbed the baby from her arms, the other slit the midwife's throat easily without a sound.

"Noooo!" Zhaunil screamed at them, "Xata! Verin!" More men came into the room, their black gloved hands stained with red blood. Two of them dragged the unconsious Verin out of the room, another one coverd Xata's little mouth and ran out after them.

"Where are you taking them!? Who are you!?"
One of the men came over to her and kicked her in the stomach. The pain from birth and the pain from his kick caused blood to drip from her mouth. Zhaunil gurgled a bit as the man kicked her face.

Dazed, confused, Zhaunil barely noticed the males throw her on her bed and undress her. She continued to bleed from her mouth, nose and brow.
