Band of Thieves
Catacombs

“Damn.” Tamber pointed to the rock face above them.
“What?” Glena often doubted what Tamber saw but never her ability to see it. With that in mind she drew her blades, ready for almost anything.
“Up there. A door, in the rock.” Tamber couldn’t actually see a door but she knew the rock wasn’t rock and the map talked of a hidden way.
“There’s no door there, you’ve been eating Froglok poison again.” The old joke between them slips from Glena’s mouth as easy as her blades did her scabbard.
“Help me…oh never mind, just watch my back.” Tamber pulled a small set of tools from her belt and pulled them onto her hands. They were good for finding small holds in rock; they also added some strength to her grip once secured onto her wrists. The other set went to the toes of her boots and belted into place, small curved spikes that could hold her weight easily.
“We always do dear.” Saren said pulling a healing spell into place just in case Tamber fell, not that she ever had. She was very good at what she did, as were they all.
Khirya cast a small light spell that glowed above her head; she let it go willing it to follow Tamber, just behind her head so it wouldn’t blind her.
“Thanks love, you are handy in the dark.”
“I’ll never let you forget it either.”
The other two laughed, glad for the banter this far below ground where the only light was a moss creepier than the zombies reportedly living here.
Tamber soon found a small ledge she could work from that was obviously meant as a sill for the door she believed was there. Before stepping onto it she checked with every sense she had and a few tools as well to see if she would trip something before she put her weight on it.
Gingerly she put her slight weight into effect and breathed a sigh, long held she realized when she found no reaction to her body coming from the stone under her feet.
“We’re bored now dear, there’s nothing to fight down here.”
“Hush warrior woman or you can fight me as I fall on you.”
“You have been eating poison. I knew it.”
Tamber looked down on her friends the easy smile taking over her generous good looks. Two humans and an elf for company, good company too, the best she had ever had, in or out of adventures.
“Humph.”
Tamber slipped off her hand tools and slipped on a thin pair of gloves, a specialty of Saren’s craftsmanship they gave her a sense of feel way beyond her own highly skilled touch.
She ran her hands around the rock, searching the way the blind did, but her hands were far from blind.
“I’ve got a keyhole here, at least I think…”
Another spell was called into being and the illusion that had been hiding the rock wall vanished.
“Oh…that helps…”
A door had appeared, a solid block of smooth stone seemingly embedded in the natural rock of the cavern wall. Near Tamber’s hand a small circular device was clearly visible.
More tools appeared and Tamber crouched down to peer into the hole she had discovered.
“Over here light.” Tamber wiggled her fingers at the small mage light that had followed her up knowing full well it was Saren that actually made it move. Still it was a fun form of play.
The slight tools she brought to work moved and wiggled under the skill of her hands and then caught on something.
Click.
Tamber moved her head to the side, a small puff of air missed her eye and the dart it propelled was tangled in her hair. Fearing poison she stood up slowly, her heart racing as if already toxified, and slowly bent over to shake the dart from her hair.
“Look out…Tamber…” Saren cried out as the magic seeped out of the cracks of the stone slab and curling wisps of shadow engulfed her friend.
“Ahhhh…” Tamber screamed, pain reaching into her as fast as the shadows could circle her and then for the first time any of her friends had seen she fell. The shades wrapped around her swirled like cloth and sea foam and then spilled over to the other woman as they caught their falling companion. Glena took most of the weight dropping her blades to do so.
In turn each screamed. One by one they fell to the ground. Saren and Glena spelled the world around them but the pain drove the magic from their minds and then they too fell in a heap around their favorite thief.
