| Fan Fiction - order of display |
|
|
|
I've submitted a few stories to the fan fiction section, and i happened to notice that the order in which the stories are displayed on the main page is done simply by the post date of the submitter's first story.
This is all well and good, but for someone who comes to the site and submits a new story, it makes the chances of anyone reading that story increasingly remote for each new person that posts (because they appear further and further down the list)
My suggestion is simple:
Base the order of the stories on the user's credibilty. The higher their cred, the higher their story is placed.
For example, I checked, and I am currently number 6 on the cred-o-meter. Therefore, if all the other people ahead of me in cred also posted fan fiction, I would appear 6th in the list. If only 3 of them did, I would appear 4th, etc...
Not only does this add an element of fairness and achievement to the section, but also encourages people to submit even more stories, since doing so can increase your cred, and thus further push you up the list...
Feedback?

That's a good idea actually. I'll talk to the owners and see what they think about it.

Sure, but wouldn't that encourage splitting up even relatively moderately-sized stories into smaller chunks? One regular-sized story = 35 credibility, but split it up three ways and it's 105, and a higher spot in the batting order. And it's not really something the site admins can enforce due to claims--true or false--of legitimate poetic license.
I mean, they can't very well PM someone and say, "Consolidate these three stories. They really belong together."
Just playing devil's advocate.

We have had several submissions that were so short that they amounted to no more than a paragraph similar to the length of your post. Those aren't approved. However, if persons wish to seperate their stories into parts we have no problem with that as long as people don't go overboard with it. We have certain standards that we enforce when approving, but don't infringe any more than we have to on submitted content. We want this to be a place where individuals can have all their stories hosted in one place under their name. Even the not so good stories. :)

Also, since our Fan Fiction section is growing very large, we are looking at different ways to organize such. One of which is alphabetically organized into sections by beginning letter (See the "members" tab at the bottom to see what I'm refering to). Though nothing is set in stone yet.
