Hi Gangers and Welcome to GameAmp's Everquest 2 section! Of course you can use the headsets but I want to make sure you know the game does not have voice chat built into. Odds are if you are using voice chat in EQ2 you are using TeamSpeak or Ventrillo. Great question and you now have some credibility for your post!

You will have to set up a Ventrilo or Teamspeak server. And then you (and who ever you give access) log on to that server and you can start chatting. It is basically a small program that runs in the background while you do other things, like playing EQ2. Very few MMORPG's have fully integrated voice chat. Mostly because both Ventrilo and Teamspeak are perfect working solutions millions of gamers use every day. Personally I don't like it, but that should not stop you. You can download the required (free) software from the links below.

When you set it up it will ask you to set up a password. Only you (and you friend) will know the username/port and password. As long as you don't tell anyone it will completely private to just the two of you.
I don't know from experience, but I think ventrilo used more these days. I don't know why, but I assume because it is slightly better. Maybe somebody else can give you better advice on that one.

In my experience with both TeamSpeak and Ventrilo, I have to say I like Ventrillo more.
TeamSpeak is perfectly functional, and works just fine, but Ventrilo seems to have better sound quality for me.
I've never set up a server, but isn't the smallest set up FREE?

In my limited use of voice chat programs as well, I'd have to agree with Dread that Ventrilo is better quality than Teamspeak. If you are looking to rent a server, both have links on their websites to hosting services.
Ventrilo Hosting Services
Teamspeak
Or you can try other free voice chat programs like Skype or Xfire, etc.
