| Dark Elves are one of the oldest of the ancient elven races. They are one of three in Norrath. To the other two races of elves they are known as the Teir'Dal which translates to, "The elves of the Abyss", in the common tongue. They were created by Innoruuk, the Prince of Hate, and are considered his children. Dark Elves look down on all other races and consider them lessor creations. They only ally and work with other races as a means to manipulate them into fulfilling their will. |

Appearance
Dark elves have a small framed standing at about 5 feet tall with a weight of 100 to 115 lbs. They have very little body fat and have well defined muscle features despite the small mass of such. They have many of the same traits of their elven cousins which include the pointed ears and high cheek bones. Everything they wear from casual clothing, to combat armor, to ceremonial dress always has a very ornate overtone to it. Many of which include symbols, pictures and carvings that have historical or sentimental value.
Skin Color
Dark Elf skin is what seperates them not only from the other elven races, but from every race in Norrath. Their skin colors range from bluish grey to deep midnight blue.
Hair Color
Dark Elf hair ranges from dulled charcoal (nearly black) to white. Some pale blonde, silver or steel colors are not uncommon.
Demeanor
Dark Elves consider themselves as the elite race of Norrath and everything they do reflects that. They are highly driven to conquest and are viewed by most Norrathians as sadistic, treacherous and hate driven. While treachery and betrayal in the pursuit of power are common place in Dark Elven society, such is usually done in secret. Dark Elves are very disciplined in all areas of life which include the avenue of sadistic violence. They are very disciplined in their secretive life of the Dark Arts of Necromancy. They live most of their life indoors or in the shadows venturing outside and interacting with other races only when they will gain something by doing so.
Background
Dark elves are one of the three known ancient elf races, one of the oldest on Norrath. They are known by the elf word, Teir'Dal, a word meaning "elf of the abyss." They have existed for ages in the dark underworlds of Norrath, and are the children of Innoruuk. Legend has it that the Prince of Hate captured the first elven king and queen and tortured them over the span of 300 years, tearing them apart and rebuilding them in his own twisted image. Whatever their true origins may be, there is no doubt that the dark elves have embraced Hate as a guiding force in their lives. Hate, when disciplined, can make one strong and focused. When inspired in others, it can be a means to corrupt and control them. The practice of necromancy, which the Teir'Dal see as Innoruuk's gift to their race, is very much at the core of their culture.
Dark elves look down upon all other races, but in the past have made use of trolls and ogres as their evil pawns. While ogres have regained their former intellect and are no longer prone to Teir'Dal manipulation, dark elves continue to look for ways to manipulate anyone they can.
Faith
Dark Elves remain devoted to their creator, Innoruuk, despite the fact that he has grown silent. They are very fanatical in their ceremonies honoring him and do not tolerate anyone in their race deviating from their established doctrine.
Recent History
Dark Elves have been cut off from their ancient home since Neriak was recently sealed. The recent world wide devastation has forced them to flee to Freeport out of self-preservation. Though outwardly they express a desire to serve the Overlord of Freeport, they do so only as a means of survival. They tolerate the other races and the city's leader for now, but will sieze the first opportunity to take control of such.
There remains however, a small sect of Dark Elves that call themselves Thexians that are living in rural areas of Nektulos still while striving to reopen the entrances to their homeland in hopes of finding survivors and reclaiming their home. Those that remain in Freeport and are not helping them are considered traitors by them and are viewed with distain as having sold out their heritage. Thexians vow to have all Dark Elves cast out as traitors when communication is re-established with the Teir'Dal queen and others below. However, the fate of those who remained in Neriak is unknown to all. |
