Appearance
Kerra are a feline race with some human characteristics. They most resemble the great cats of the jungles and the Serengeti Plains. With markings according to their lineage, the Kerra have a commanding presence. Their prehensile tail performs subservient tasks, as if it has a mind of it’s own, and their strong jaws contain sharp canines that await the next unsuspecting prey.
However, even with these advantages to their enemies, the Kerra have no sweat glands and very thick body fur, this often leads to overheating. To prevent this, the Kerra are constantly panting to help regulate their body temperature. Their strength allows them to wear the heaviest of armors, and their clothes are usually made of hides or coarse fabric, however, no matter the type, whatever they don must be constructed to allow ventilation.
Demeanor
At first glance the Kerra are noting more than a quite, calm, peaceful race. However when drawn into battle the Kerra become fierce and aggressive. The decision to unleash their fury is always done wisly and with much discretion. This rational manner applies throughout all aspects of the Kerran lifestyle.
Background
Female Kerra are a bit larger than males, thus they have developed as a matriarchal culture. Kerra trace their ancestry back to their first great leader, Kejaan. He traveled the continent of Odus, uniting the various tribes into one kingdom and ushering in an era of peace and prosperity. One day, though Erud and his High Men arrived to settle the continent. This splinter group of humans took over much Kerra land; even worse, a great plague infected many Kerra and caused massive deaths. The Kerra blamed the Heretics and their study of necromancy. Kejaan succumbed to the plague, leaving his son Vah Kerrath as leader. He vowed to make the Heretics pay.
During the civil war between the Erudites and the Heretics, a huge explosion of mystical forces teleported an entire Kerra village to the dark side of the moon of Luclin. Vah Kerrath survived this journey and renamed his lost tribe the Vah Shir. The Kerra on Norrath scattered; some went west to settle Kerra Isle, others east to a tiny island in Erud's Crossing, and others fled deep into the Stonebrunt Mountains. Much later, a path to Luclin was forged and some of the Vah Shir returned to Kerra Isle, breeding a new, stronger people.
Faith
Kerra don't worship any specific deity. They do honor the spirits of the land and the great ancestors from the past.
Kerras live in a matriarchal society. Since the females fill the role of the priests and leaders this leaves the males with gathering food and protection of the tribe.
Recent History
The Kerra relate all of Norrath's sorrow to the mingling of their race with all of the others. Because of this they desire isolation from every other race. The Erudites are commonly distrusted above all other races. Their physical transformation ability is unsettleting to the Kerra. |
