| Half elves are the offspring of the union between any of the three ancient elven races and a human. Physically, they closely resemble humans in build, but with the more delicate elven facial structure. This blending of features creates perhaps one of the most exquisitely beautiful races on Norrath. The half elves are rebellious, and this seems to show through in their hair styles and garb. There are no Norrathian societies that can come close to some of the outlandish fashions of the half elves. |

Demeanor
Half-Elves lives are haunted with prejudice. They are not accepted by humans or elven races and are forced to exist as racial outcasts in civilized culture. Repression has hardened most half-elves to society and most refuse to follow the rules of such. They range from loud spoken to quiet. Smiles are a rare sight on the face of a half elf and usually bear an indifferent expression. Half elves are very quick to befriend other half elves because of the persecution they all receive daily. They realize that they can only truly count on each other.
Friendships with half elves are something that is hard earned. It takes a lot to gain the trust of a half elf, but when such trust is obtained, you have gained a friend for life. Half elves are fiercely loyal to their friends and would gladly lay down their life in defense of a true ally or friend.
Background
Caught between cultures, half elves possess no heritage of their own and have long been forced to exist outside the boundaries of polite society. As such, they've been mostly content to live in the human cities or to embrace their woodland heritage and call the outdoors home. With the influx of refugees coming into the cities, half elves have come to feel displaced from the only way of life they knew. They have grown somewhat rebellious as a result and refer to themselves as the Ayr'Dal, a term derived from the old elven word for "misfit." Though often used by dark elves and high elves as an insult, the half elves have embraced the word as a symbol of their unique place in the world.
High elves and dark elves view half elves with disdain, as they represent a taint upon the purity of their respective races. Wood elves are somewhat more accepting, and humans simply don't care one way or the other.
Recent History
The shattering has had little effect on Half Elves. They have lived as outcasts in human cities for so long, that the only effect it has had on them is in the increased population of the cities they live in. They delight in the fact that now the pure elven races are many times now persecuted in the human cities as they have been for ages. |
